Dead Island 2 is an upcoming action role-playing game that has been in development for many years. Originally announced in 2014, the game has undergone multiple changes in its development team and release date. However, it is finally set to be released on April 21, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Dead Island 2 is a sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island and the third major installment in the Dead Island series. Set about 10 years after the events of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, the game takes place in the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco, which have been quarantined due to a new and stronger zombie outbreak.
The game features different combat mechanics than its predecessors, as well as several features from the previous games, such as the "rage" and crafting systems. It also includes new weapon modifications and new zombies.
Dead Island 2 was originally set to be developed by Yager Development, but was removed from the project in 2015 and replaced by Sumo Digital. Sumo Digital was also removed, with Dambuster Studios becoming the developers in 2019.
